Social Housing

Social housing is affordable rented housing for people on low incomes.

Meath County Council is responsible for managing much of the Social Housing available in Meath.

How to Apply

To apply for social housing download and complete the Social Housing Application Form available at the bottom of this page. (Forms are also available at your local Council office)

Drop the completed form off at your local office or return to:

Buvinda House,
Navan,
Co. Meath

Please be aware that it can take up to 12 weeks to process your Social Housing application. You will receive written notification to inform you of the outcome.

Who Can Apply?

To apply for housing with us you must;

1. Live in the Meath area or have a local connection to the Meath area
2. Your income must be below a set limit

What is a local connection?

You have a local connection if any of the following apply:

• A member of the household has resided in the area (for a continuous 5 year period) at any time
• A member of the household is employed in the area or within 15 kilometres of the area
• A member of the household is in full-time education in any university, college, school or other educational establishment in the area
• A member of the household, who has enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment, is attending a related educational or medical establishment in the area
• A relative of any member of the household lives in the area and has lived here for a minimum of 2 years.

Income limits

In order to satisfy the income limit for for social housing, your maximum net income must be below the following limits:

If your Net Income falls under these amounts:

Single Adult (over 18 years of age) €40,000

2 adults, no children €42,000

1 adult, 1 child €41,000

1 adult, 2 children €42,000

2 adults, 1 child €43,000

2 adults, 2 children €44,000

2 adults, 3 children €45,000

2 adults, 4 or more children €46,000

3 adults, 4 or more children €48,000

Citizenship, Legal Status and Applications for Social Housing

If you are a non EEA National you may qualify to make a Social Housing application under one of the criteria listed on the document titled 'Legal Status in Ireland and Making a Housing Application' at the bottom of this page.

How Houses are Allocated

Meath County Council's allocation scheme operates a time based system for the allocation of houses.

The demand for social housing is currently high. When you apply for Social Housing and qualify you will then be placed on a waiting list. You can expect to wait on average 6 to 10 years before we can offer you a house (depending on your housing need).
